You may have heard about the review game Digital Stinky Feet from a coworker or online, but do you really know what it is? This post is here to clear it up for you! Below are nine important things to know about Digital Stinky Feet and how it will help you in your classroom.
1. Digital Stinky Feet is a Review Game
This is the question I get more often than anything else, “What exactly is Stinky Feet?”
The short answer is the best review game you will ever use.
The long answer is a review game that uses cooperative learning strategies to have students work together towards a common goal of review. Each question provides an opportunity to select a sock with randomized points. The points are positive and negative, meaning each and every team is in the hunt until the very last question.
2. It Can Be Played In Multiple Ways
This review game is one of the most versatile I have ever used in the classroom. It can be used with the whole class, as an independent assessment, with a partner as a learning station, or in your small groups for tutoring or extra practice. There are practically no boundaries to how and when you can use Digital Stinky Feet!
3. Digital Stinky Feet is Google Slides Compatible
The game itself is made in PowerPoint, but it works beautifully in Google Slides as well. To play the game is slides, simply open the file, place in present mode, and you are ready to play.
Whether you are playing in PowerPoint, Keynote, or Slides it is important to remember to place the game in Present, Presentation, or Slideshow mode, as this is what activates the action buttons.
It is NOT built for use with Smartboards.
4. Pre-Made Topical and Editable Template Versions are Available
While it is a good idea to make review games personalized for your students, it is also a reality that time does not always allow for that.
For this reason, there are dozens of pre-made DSF games on a variety of topics from math to science to social studies.
If you are looking to personalize your review, the editable template is the way to go!
5. Students LOVE Digital Stinky Feet
Until you play with your students, you really cannot understand the excitement this game brings into the classroom. I have experienced it with my own students and heard it from hundreds of other teachers, students LOVE Digital Stinky Feet and ask to play it over and over again.
6. It Started with a Paper Version
I was first introduced to the game by a coworker and we used a poster board with sticky notes on it. Each sticky note had a point value written on the back and students pulled sticky notes to choose their points. This meant a LOT of recreating sticky notes, because they just didn’t hold their stick.
Enter the digital version! Less materials and more fun!
7. Digital Stinky Feet Works for Distance Learning Days
Whether you are having a distance learning day due to inclement weather, are always distance learners, or are staying at home due to a global pandemic, DSF offers a fun way to review through video chat!
8. It is Random
One of the absolute most important things you should know about the game is that the points allocated by the socks are random. As mentioned above, they are positive an negative, and change with each question.
In order to keep students guessing, only one student or team is allowed to choose each sock per question. For example, if team 1 picks the red sock on the right hand side of the slide, then no other team can choose that sock for that question.
Another stipulation I often put in place is that a student or team cannot pick the same sock two questions in a row. This keeps teams from always choosing the same sock which may or may not benefit them in the long run, but is sure to frustrate other teams.
9. Digital Stinky Feet Can Be Used Over And Over Again
This is NOT one of those one and done style review games. Your students, not to mention you, are going to want to play over and over again.
The editable template allows you to create any game you want and the random points will keep your students guessing and engaged no matter how many times you play.
You Need Digital Stinky Feet in Your Classroom
Personally, I believe this game belongs in every classroom! It is easy to use, requires almost no materials, can be used over and over again, and most importantly, will excite your students about their learning!
Still Not Convinced?
I get it, sometimes seeing is believing! For this very reason, I am giving you the opportunity to download a FREE version of DSF to try out. Now, this topic might not be your cup of tea, but it will allow you the opportunity to click through and see how truly amazing it is and why your students (AND YOU) will love it!
